Declaring or Changing Majors

You may declare or change your major at any time; however, we encourage to you confer with your academic adviser or the director of Student Academic Support Services (SASS) before doing so. If you and your adviser agree, you must complete a Change of Status form with SASS or the Registrar’s Office to formalize the decision. You will be subject to degree requirements in effect at the time of the major change.

Registration

If you are a new student or eligible for readmission, you must contact the Office of Admissions before registration can be completed. If you are currently enrolled at USF, you may register each semester on the dates specified in the Course Schedule online using My Cougar Connection or in person in the Registrar’s Office.

Online Registration

A student must have a network login (username and password) to use online registration. Please use the following steps:

  1. Review the Course Schedule located in My Cougar Connection. Hard copies of the schedule are available in the Registrar’s Office, library and academic department offices. The schedule is subject to change and changes are updated daily at the online schedule on My Cougar Connection.
  2. Select the desired courses and make sure they are a program requirement or elective in your major.
  3. Make an appointment with your adviser. If you do not know who your adviser is, contact the Registrar’s Office or your academic department. Your adviser will:
    • Help you determine the courses for which you need to register.
    • Complete and sign a paper registration form with you.
    • Grant registration clearance.
  4. The first day you can register is listed in the Course Schedule Policy. The number of credit hours earned in previous semesters determines the day you can first register. You can register at 7 a.m. on the first day and 24 hours a day after that until the first day of the semester. Online registration closes the day before the semester starts.
  5. You can access online registration directions in My Cougar Connection or pick up printed instructions from the Registrar’s Office located in PJPII Room 207.
  6. If you want to register online but need assistance, visit the Help Desk in PJPII during normal business hours or contact the Registrar’s Office at 260.399.8061, or by email at tmoore@sf.edu, visit us in PJPII Room 207.

Dropping and Adding Courses

You may make changes to your schedule online or in person in the Registrar’s Office to safeguard the accuracy of your permanent record. Courses added during the second week of classes during the fall and spring semesters require both your adviser’s and instructor’s signatures. Courses may not be added after the second week of classes in the fall and spring semesters. During summer sessions, courses may not be added after the first day of class. If you would like to make a change to your schedule, you must complete a Drop/Add form (also available in the Registrar’s Office). Your completed form must be signed by your adviser, as well as another faculty member in the department or Student Academic Support Services staff as evidence that possible alternatives and consequences were discussed. Your completed form must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office for processing. If you complete the form online, you are strongly advised to secure the approval with your adviser first. Please note that changes in full-time or part-time status may affect financial aid, veterans benefits or athletic eligibility. For more information, please contact Tina Moore at 260.399.8061 or tmoore@sf.edu.
